Definition : /ĖŒsɛlfĖˆkɛĖ/ noun - the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one's own health.

Take an action in order to contribute to your wellbeing. Self-care are two words which are easy to pronounce, however difficult to apply in life. It requires planning the actions you will take and discipline while keeping in mind the primary goal: life balance. Let's be honest ā€“ this is not an easy task while juggling through life responsibilities.

Lets not start this challenge by procrastinating and thinking we cannot achieve it. Nothing is impossible right! Put your ā€œI can do thisā€ hat and let's kick this off with 3 basic ideas. We can do this!

Drink Water. This simple action that we often forget to do. I have an alarm that rings twice a day. Time can fly so fast, a small reminder doesnā€™t do any harm. Water bottle is also helpful however the alarm does set the trigger to drink water. In the same line of selfcare, you could introduce eating 5 vegetables every day.

Be thankful. Finish your day highlighting the best moment. For me today was the long walk with my daschund, Rookie. That bowl of fresh air was very much appreciated! It doesnā€™t need to be material things, it could be simple actions of everyday life or small wins like going to the gym.

Make the bed. Yeah this one is a classic. However if you donā€™t practice it, you canā€™t understand the benefits of it! I started making my bed very late in life (remember I was a couch potato). When I went through a difficult period in life and things were getting out of my control, I implemented this as something that I could still control. I was very proud every morning, and still am today. Order is essential.

These are 3 simple ideas to start with. Set the alarm, make the time, help yourself. See your body and mind like a special place you need to nurture. After all, if you feel happy with yourself, you will shine even brighter! If you skip a day, donā€™t be hard on yourself, tomorrow is another day, you can get back in track. The most important is to keep going.
